The Point of God's Love

Text: Luke 19:10
For the Son of Man came to seek out and to save the lost.’ (NRSV)

Today will be my last in our series of daily devotions.  I pray that you have been inspired and challenged by at least some of them.  It has been a meaningful spiritual discipline for me to read my scriptures each morning and then to write down some of my thoughts.  I would challenge each of you to try it for yourselves.  Simply read a section of scripture each morning and then write the thoughts that God places in your spirit.

I will have presided over three funerals by the end of this week.  When I speak at a funeral, I always try and express what I believe to be God’s original intention for all of us whom he has created.  I truly believe that God has created us in order to have a relationship with him.  And this relationship does not end when we draw our final breath in this earthly life but continues on for all eternity.  It is truly the point of God’s love.

Today’s verse, as short as it is, is a powerful reminder of God’s love and desire to be in relationship with all people.  Jesus, the Son of Man, has come to seek out and to save those who have been separated from God.  This was and is the point of Jesus becoming flesh and blood and walking among us.  It is a direct result of the love of God that is continually being poured out.

If you have not yet accepted the love of God as found in Jesus, please don’t wait any longer.  If you never reconnect with God who has created you, you will miss out on the entire purpose of your life.

Pray with me:

God of love forgive me for continuing to live my life separated from you by my sin.  Today, I bring my sin before you and claim the forgiveness that you have freely offered me in the life, death, and resurrection of Jesus Christ.  I thank you for seeking me out and saving me, one who has been lost in this broken world.  Fill me with your Holy Spirit and empower me to love you as you have loved me.  Empower me to love others as you have loved me.  Empower me to live my life always in ways that bring honor and glory to your name from this day and forever more.  AMEN.
