Enjoying God

I don’t know about you; when I consider my relationship with God, my first thoughts are not usually about “enjoying” God.  Instead, I typically think of God in terms of how God may keep tabs on everything I do, and I suppose that I generally start by questioning what I should be doing to please God.  I think most of us think about our relationship with the Divine in the same way.

I want you to pause for a moment and ponder what it would mean to enjoy God.  What would it look or feel like to you?  I know what it feels like to me.  When I was a small boy, I remember climbing up into my dad’s lap during a thunderstorm, and I enjoyed feeling safe and secure in his arms.

Jesus invites you to come today to sit and enjoy him.  What would it be like to contemplate the glory of the creation and the One who holds everything together and craves fellowship with us?  As we sit in the presence of the resurrected Christ, we taste and see that God is good.

Learn how to spend time in silence to enjoy God’s presence.  Set aside any schedule you have and embrace the truth that you aren’t wasting your time when you spend it sitting alone with the God.  May you spend this quiet time enjoying God’s presence, restoring your strength, and leading you closer to his heart and will for your life.

Prayer:
Lord Jesus, help me release any fears I have concerning my relationship with you.  In my heart, I want to glorify you in everything I do.  Therefore, I trust in you, and please help me learn to sit in your presence to enjoy everything about you.  Amen

Scripture:
Though you have not seen him, you love him; and even though you do not see him now, you believe in him and are filled with an inexpressible and glorious joy. – 1 Peter 1:8

One thing I ask from the LORD, this only do I seek:  that I may dwell in the house of the LORD all the days of my life, to gaze on the beauty of the LORD and to seek him in his temple. – Psalm 27:4
