God's Gift of Music

Today's devotions comes from our organist, pianist and choir director, Priscilla Cunningham.  Priscilla is a great example of what it means to be a church musician.  There is something unique about being a musician in worship, and in this devotion, Priscilla gives us a glimpses into the life and worship of a church musician!  Enjoy!

Music is one of the greatest gifts God has given us.  It helps us rejoice when we're happy and lifts our spirits when we're sad.  Most important of all, it helps us worship.  Through music we are lifted up by Him beyond other forms of expression.

For church musicians, we are able to worship through our music but, best of all, we are able to help others worship.  We are not there to perform, but to help lead worship.

For me, one of the most exciting times in worship is when the congregation is expressing their faith through song.  Hearing full organ and congregation joining in one of the great hymns of the church to worship God is thrilling!

As the beginning of Psalm 100 states:
Shout for joy to the Lord all the earth.
Worship the Lord with gladness;
Come before Him with joyful songs.

Worshiping through music is so powerful. I feel closer to God when I sing.

Sometimes when Priscilla is playing the organ, tears appear and I have a feeling of floating. The music seems to lift me off my feet.
