My Word: H O P E

Hello, friends!  Today's devotion comes from Stacey Eisenlohr.  Stacey is a very dedicated follower of Christ whom we are blessed to worship and serve with here in Absecon.  You know what the most inspiring thing about her is?  It's that even when life get tough, her faith doesn't weaken at all.  In fact, it might even get stronger!  Stacey is going through some medical battles right now; but she is offering us this devotion to give us all the hope of Christ.  Enjoy!

And patience produces character, and character produces hope. And this hope will never disappoint us, because God has poured out his love to fill our hearts. He gave us his love through the Holy Spirit, whom God has given to us.  (Romans 5:4-5)

I’m not one to make New Year resolutions or make a list of things to plan for.  So I was a bit surprised when a word popped into my head sometime in early January of this year.  I was sitting outside thinking and praying and that word came into my mind so clearly - HOPE.

What does this mean, I wondered?  What do I need to hope for?  I have a wonderful life filled with blessings of all of my needs and more!  I have our Heavenly Father and His precious Son, Jesus always with me.

The answer came in September when I had a finding on a mammogram that turned out to be Stage 2 breast cancer.  It is a rather aggressive form of cancer that had spread to one lymph node.  So now that word, hope took on a whole new meaning.

After consultations with my medical team I was told that there IS hope for a cure!  It will be a long journey that takes me well into 2022.  The treatments are aggressive and there will be the need for surgery and radiation following chemotherapy.  But I am taking every step with the Lord holding me tightly onto me, faithfully and unfailingly!

God’s history of help goes back to our very beginning.  By his miracles he delivered the Israelites from bondage, began a nation from a couple who were beyond the age of childbearing, delivered the human race from extinction from a catastrophic flood, and so much more.  He is our help, strength and protection, all because He loves us dearly!  He is the ultimate Promise Keeper.

I know I’m going to be ok (REGARDLESS of the outcome) because He has a perfect plan for each and every one of us.  I hope this message brings you hope, too, as you face your seemingly insurmountable challenges.  As He says in Joshua 1:5 “I will never leave you nor forsake you.”

I wish everyone a joy filled healthy blessed New Year!

- Stacey Eisenlohr
