Unlikely Offering: Mary of Bethany - traditional service

Feb 22, 2026    Reverend David L. Ledford, III

For Lent this year, we are studying Rev. Rachel Billups' "An Unlikely Lent; Extraordinary People in the Easter Story". We begin our Lenten journey in the home of some of Jesus' closest friends. Mary of Bethany steps forward in a bold lavish act of divine adoration, anointing Jesus' feet with a costly perfume. Let's explore how this act, although controversial, exhibited great love for Jesus, while also foreshadowing the death and burial that is to come. Are we, like Mary of Bethany, ready to do what we feel we must do for Christ, no matter what other people think?
